Fundraising terms for Jumpstart learners
  • FUNDRAISING
The activity of raising money or collecting donations from people, businesses, or organisations to support a specific cause or project.
  • MONEY FUNDRAISING

When your Jumpstart Club organises events/activities to raise money, or asks people to donate money to support your cause or project.

  • DONATION

Money, items, products, or services that people give (gift/donate) without charging you to support your cause/project without expecting anything in return.

  • DONATION DRIVE

A Donation Drive is an organised campaign/activity where your Jumpstart Club asks people to give specific items (not money) over a set period to help a particular cause.

  • GIFTS-IN-KIND
Instead of giving you money, people give you things or services that have value and help your cause directly.
  • CAUSE
The reason or purpose behind your fundraising campaign or project – the problem you are trying to solve or the people/organisation you want to support.
  • TARGET
The specific amount of money or number of items you want to collect.
  • AWARENESS-RAISING
Getting people to know about, understand, and care about your cause or project.
  • BUDGET
A financial plan showing how much money you expect to spend and raise (expenses: money going out, income: money coming in).
  • BREAK-EVEN
The point where your income (money coming in) equals your expenses (money going out) – you don’t make a profit or loss.
  • SPONSORSHIP
When a person or business gives you money or items in exchange for recognition/advertising.
  • RETURN ON INVESTMENT (ROI)
How much profit you make compared to what you spent, or the impact your project has made.
  • CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR)

When businesses or corporate companies have funding put aside to help communities, or support causes as part of being good corporate citizens. For Jumpstart Clubs: many companies have CSR budgets specifically for supporting education and youth projects – these are great targets for funding/donation requests!

  • ENGAGE
Means to connect with people or businesses and get their attention by explaining your cause/project to get them to support you.
