A Basic Guide to Understand and Practice Critical Thinking

What is Critical Thinking?

Think of critical thinking as being a detective.  A detective doesn’t accept the first story they hear; critical thinking means that you won’t automatically believe everything you see, hear, or read. Instead, you pause, become curious and ask: “Is this true? Is it factual? How do I know? What’s the evidence to support it?”

Critical thinking is about examining and analysing information carefully. You question assumptions and make reasoned judgments based on evidence rather than emotions, the norm, popularity, going with your gut, or what sounds good or true.

Critical thinking is not about becoming cynical or doubting everything.
It’s the art of being curious, thoughtful, fair, and capable of making good decisions.
